Day 11 (5/7) Back in some good tread!

Great trail to start off on for day 11, cairns frequently and the trail was easy to follow. Huge improvement over the road walk yesterday.

Trail started to get steeper. This is looking back down the trail after 20 minutes of steep climbing.

Great views once on top.

Ran into this along the trail accompanied by a bunch of cairns. Found out later from Zippy Morocco that a hermit lived in that area. Zippy had brought him a book and some fresh food that Porsche sent to Silver City. (Posche met the hermit hiking the CDT a previous year.

Getting closer to the Gila River. It will be nice to not have to worry about water for a few days.

No bueno! Walked right up on this rattler. Thankfully Chocolate Chipmunk had left a note on the trail that Zippy and I found about the snake. We ended up walking around it through the brush. Took a short video of it that I'll try to post later.

Sapillo Creek, time to water up!

We made it to the Gila River. We had to cross it numerous time to stay on the trail, the river cliffs out around every bend. Very slow going over rocky river banks and through thick brush. We found a place to camp around 8:15. I tried to eat supper but was too tired and went to bed. Zippy is an ultralite hiker (7.5# baseweight) and long distance runner, he wore me out but it was great hiking with some after 4 days on the trail alone.

Another great day! 23.5 miles, 8:15 hours hiking. Only 10 miles to my next drop at Doc Campbell's Post.
